Assel Murzalimova, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Ecology, PhD, Shakarim University: The demand for environmental specialists is rapidly growing!

This year, for the second time, I proudly send off our graduates as a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Ecology of Shakarim University. Supporting the professional development of young people and awakening their interest in the chosen field — this is the primary goal of every educator. And I am confident that we have fulfilled this mission with dignity once again.

Last year, 15 students graduated from our department, and 87% of them found employment in their field of study. Considering the demands and competition in today’s labor market, this is a significant achievement. This year’s graduates have also met our expectations and demonstrated strong results. Notably, three students received diplomas with honors and are already planning to continue their education at the master’s level.

What pleases us most is that many Shakarim University graduates return to their home regions — to various districts of the Abai region — to contribute to the development of their local communities. This is not just a personal success; it reflects the formation of professionals who are valuable to society.

Today, the demand for environmental specialists is growing rapidly. Environmental protection, the rational use of natural resources, and waste management — the role of qualified ecologists in addressing these critical issues is becoming increasingly important.

To meet the needs of applicants who consciously aim to dedicate their lives to environmental protection, Shakarim University offers all the necessary resources: modern educational programs, qualified faculty, practice-oriented training, and opportunities for scientific research in ecology.

In addition, the establishment of the Abai region as an independent administrative area has opened up new employment opportunities for young professionals. Many of last year’s graduates are already working in various government institutions in the city of Semey. This is clear evidence of the quality of our student training and their competitiveness in the labor market.

On behalf of the department, I wish all future young ecologists great success and express my confidence that they will actively work for the sake of environmental sustainability in our country.
