Students Can No Longer Write Their Theses with AI!

During the parliamentary hearings on "Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Republic of Kazakhstan", an exhibition of various AI-based projects was held, reports BAQ.KZ correspondent.

One of the featured projects was AI Check, presented by Kuanyshbekuly Akhmet, a third-year student at Shakarim University.

AI Check is an academic verification system powered by artificial intelligence. Its main purpose is to determine the authenticity of student and thesis papers — whether they were written by a human or generated using AI tools.

“The system analyzes four key aspects: text structure, logic, grammatical errors, and human capability. For instance, it calculates the percentage of 'human contribution' to a given text. If the work is genuinely written by a person, the system shows 75–80%. For AI-generated texts, this figure is significantly lower,” — explained the student.

The system identifies AI-generated sentences by detecting specific linguistic patterns and phrases. Frequent use of connectors like “firstly,” “secondly,” “moreover,” “thus,” or “therefore” may indicate AI involvement in writing the text.

The system operates in three languages and was developed over nine months. It is currently being successfully used at Shakarim University, with plans to scale it across higher education institutions throughout Kazakhstan.
