Relevance:
One of the important directions of further development of electrolyte-plasma nitriding technology is to accelerate the diffusion saturation process and reduce the duration of nitriding. In our opinion, one of the solutions to this problem is to develop a method of preliminary preparation of the saturated surface before nitriding. One of the options can be pretreatment of the surface with intense plastic deformation, which allows you to create a surface nano-structured layer. The desire to increase the efficiency of the plasma-electrolytic nitriding technology previously developed by the authors with a view to its widespread introduction to improve the tribological and corrosion characteristics of alloy steels operating under conditions of wear and aggressive environments is a prerequisite for the development of this project. In this project, it is proposed to develop a combined method of surface treatment of stainless steel 12X18H10T, which includes preliminary surface machining to obtain a nano-structured surface and subsequent electrolyte-plasma low-temperature nitriding.
Target:
Development of a combined method for surface hardening of stainless steel parts, which includes surface plastic deformation and subsequent electrolyte-plasma nitriding, as well as the study of structural transformations in 12X18H10T steel during plastic deformation and their effect on the kinetics of diffusion saturation of nitrogen and carbon surfaces during subsequent nitriding.
Expectation:
In this project, it is proposed to develop a combined method of surface treatment of stainless steels, which includes preliminary mechanical treatment of the surface to obtain an ultra fine-grained structure and subsequent low-temperature nitriding in an electrolyte plasma. Within the framework of this project, the effects of technological parameters (processing time, ball size, oscillation frequency) of mechanical processing under the influence of ball impacts on the structure and mechanical properties of the surface of steel 12X18Н10T will be investigated. The effects of pre-machining on the formation of a nitrided layer of 12X18H10T steel will be studied. The features of the formation of the dislocation substructure of 12X18N10T steel under surface plastic deformation and its role in the formation of the nitrided layer will be investigated. The mechanisms of diffusion saturation of the surface with coarse-grained and ultra fine-grained structures will be established. Based on the results of experimental studies, a method of combined processing of stainless steel products will be developed and technological recommendations for the application of the developed method will be issued.
This project, aimed at increasing the service life of steel products, is of great practical importance. As a result of the ongoing research, a new method of combined processing of stainless steel parts will be developed, which will increase their service life. The scientific basis of the combined method of surface hardening of austenitic steel will also be developed. The proposed combined method is simple and economically more profitable, does not require the use of expensive and complex equipment and consumables, which gives a significant economic effect.
Result:
Based on previous studies, the authors found that the developed two-stage heating mode allows the use of the cathode process of electrolyte-plasma heating for nitriding products, and at low temperatures (450-550C), which allows this method to be used as a finishing treatment of products, in particular, nitriding cutting tools made of high-speed steels that have undergone hardening heat treatment. Nevertheless, one of the limiting factors for the widespread use of the previously developed method of electrolyte-plasma nitriding is the small thickness of the nitrided layer (only 30-40 microns). Increasing the duration of the saturation process to obtain the required thickness of the nitrided layer will require a large consumption of electricity, which is unprofitable.
