On April 7, Shakarim University officially launched Science Week 2025 at the JasStar coworking space. The event is timed to coincide with Kazakhstan’s Day of Science Workers, celebrated annually on April 12.
Rector Duman Orynbekov opened the event with a speech highlighting the importance of science as a strategic national resource and a driving force for social progress:
“Science is not just a field of knowledge. It is a powerful tool for development, a source of innovation, and a foundation for sustainable advancement. It is during weeks like these that new ideas are born, teamwork is strengthened, and youth is inspired.”
Shakarim University is rightfully regarded as the leading scientific and innovation hub in the region. Its priority research areas include biotechnology, food and processing industries, ecology, materials science, and agricultural sciences.
Key scientific achievements in 2024:
Over 40 scientific projects under active implementation
More than 110 publications in Scopus and Web of Science, including Q1–Q2 journals
12 successful PhD defenses and 5 academic titles awarded
Over 300 million tenge allocated for co-financing research
Scientific equipment worth over 450 million tenge was procured
Engineering Center and PCR laboratory were launched
Over 60% of young researchers are engaged in science
More than 25 events are scheduled throughout the week:
the open student conference “Shakarim-INNO”, master classes, scientific discussions, competitions, e-Poster presentations, and intellectual games.
“The university actively supports student-led science and opens new frontiers for research. High intellectual potential, initiative, and a passion for knowledge — this is the energy that will shape the future of science in our country,” said the rector.
