INTERNATIONAL CANCER PREVENTION PROJECT

In many countries of the world, including Kazakhstan, breast cancer is the first kind of cancer among women. On average, 5,000 patients are diagnosed with breast cancer in our country, and 1,200 patients dieof it. When cancer is detected at an early stage, 95% of cancer patients can be successfully treated.

Faculty staff of Shakarim University recently completed an internship at the Bydgoszcz University of Economics in Poland under the project "Self-Diagnostics of Breast Cancer in Kazakh Youth" for representatives of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan. The project implementer is AZS WSG society (Bydgoszcz, Poland). The international project "RITA - Region in Transition" is co-financed by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. The next stage of the project implementation is to teach self-diagnosis of breast cancer to employees and students of the Faculty of Public Health, structural department of Shakarim University.

For this purpose, the head of the Department of Chemical Technology and Ecology A.Sabitova, senior lecturer L.Bakirova and senior lecturer of the Department of Natural Sciences R.Zharmukhametova held a seminar-training for university professors, staff and students. More than 400 people participated in the training.

Since the students of our university do not have a medical background, at the seminar-training, first of all, general information about the structure of the breast was explained, and the epidemiology and risk factors of breast cancer were addressed. Feedback from the audience was received during each seminar-training, and it was noticed that the information was very useful. Based on the results of the training, consideration of the test results, a conclusion is being made, and an article is planned to be published in the Scopus or Web of Science databases.

The next stage of this international project is the arrival of the author of the project, Professor Tatiana Odinets of the University of Bydgoszcz, well-known Polish oncologist-surgeon Witold Kowalski, coordinators of the project Alexander Skaliy and Tatiana Skaliy to the partner Shakarim University and Semipalatinsk Medical University in April of this year. During the visit, the "Fight against breast cancer" day will be held and an evaluation of the level of implementation of the project will be undertaken.

Alfira Sabitova says, - Today, breast cancer is a very dangerous and widespread disease, so we wish every woman to get into the habit of doing breast self-diagnosis on certain days every month with these simple methods. This was the main goal of our seminar. We think that we have contributed to the fact that many of our girls will change their attitude towards their health even a little. "Instead of looking for a cure for pain, look for a pain-free way."
